Worship in the Park & Annual Picnic

Is summer fun around here, or what?! Long gone are the days when summer was a “down time” around our church. Mission trips from here to Haiti, concert series, youth-led worship, guest pastors, VBS…

And now (drum roll, please)…Worship in Nisbet Park followed by our annual picnic and 2nd Annual Barbecue Competition (to be judged or not judged as you see fit- lest ye be judged). What a wonderful opportunity to publicly proclaim our faith in a very public space! We will have a full worship experience in the amphitheater with all the elements we normally experience here in our building including communion and a full musical ensemble- and you won’t want to miss Pastor Lorne’s sermon.

So here are the details:

Worship will begin at 10:00 am on Sunday, August 13. Picnic and barbecue competition will follow. Please feel free to bring a side, salad, or dessert to share in true Lutheran hot-dish fashion.

Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.

We know that parking can be challenging in downtown Loveland, so if possible please arrange to share rides or walk or bike if you live close enough. If you wish, you can meet in the parking lot here at church, leave your car and then carpool down with friends.

To help with the parking challenges, the Fraternal Order of Eagles has granted us permission to use their parking that Sunday for worship which is great news since that parking lot is adjoining to Nisbet Park. There are many signs saying parking is not allowed there, however, we have received their permission for this church event. In addition, Dr. Cole of Loveland Regional Veterinary Hospital has graciously extended us the use of his lower parking lot that morning.

Other ideas beyond the general parking around Nisbet Park include:

– the large new parking lot next to Loveland Canoe

– Schutte’s Dry Cleaning (across the river)

– Street parking along Riverside (west side of the river)

– Behind Bond Furniture / Next to Cappy’s

Please also note that our only worship service that weekend is the 10:00 am in the park. There will not be worship on Saturday, August 12.

Lastly, in the event of inclement weather, we will worship back at POP (still at 10:00 am) instead of at the park. An e-mail and Facebook post will go out Saturday evening at 8:00 pm only in the event of a rain-out. Otherwise assume we are good to go outside.

I’m looking forward to gathering our whole church family for this fun-filled event, coming up soon.

Meet you at the Park!
