First Communion

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

1 Corinthians 11:26

As Lutherans we love the Word and the Sacraments. We believe that we receive God’s grace through them.

All are welcome at Christ’s table to be nourished, loved and forgiven. Come, share the meal of grace and peace.

First Communion is your chance to explore with your child what it means to receive God’s grace through the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This is an important milestone for your child.

Frequently Asked Questions

All are welcome to the table.

Twice throughout the year, we offer formal instruction for children regarding the sacrament of communion.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your family to go deeper into your faith formation together and for your child to receive communion for the first time. First Communion materials are geared for 1st – 3rd graders, but if you as a parent feel that your child is ready earlier, or if your student is older than 3rd grade and wants to receive First Communion, you are welcome!  If you have questions, please feel free to talk to Pastor Lorne and we will work to accommodate you.

Workshops are held every spring and fall.

Check the calendar on the top of this page or fill out the form to request information and someone from the church will respond with the next opportunity for a workshop.

We commune by intinction or the common cup. Ushers will direct you to the front of the worship space. After receiving the bread, either dip it in the first cup (intinction chalice) or eat and proceed on to the next chalice to drink from the common cup located at the center of the worship space. Grape juice is also available from the acolyte at the center in pre-filled glasses. Please return empty glasses to the basket on the front pew. Non-communing children and adults are invited to come forward to receive a blessing. Please notify an usher if you wish to receive communion at your seat.

Grape juice is always available. Gluten-free wafers are available for those with a wheat or gluten intolerance. Please raise your index finger to the pastor to indicate this need when receiving the bread. Pre-filled glasses of white wine are available in the center of the tray held by the acolyte for those with a gluten intolerance.

Contact the church office at 513-683-4244 if you have any questions.
