2024 WEEKEND OF SERVICE

This weekend is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

Together in Jesus Christ we are freed by grace to live faithfully, witness boldly and serve joyfully.

This year, service sites will be divided into three categories

  1. Serve Flexibly - these are projects you can do at your own pace in your home and around the community.

  2. Serve Off-Site - these are projects you can do at our partners’ sites at a specific time with others from our community.

  3. Serve with others at Prince of Peace - these are projects that benefit our ministry partners that will be done at church with others from the community.

Several current ministry partners, as well as new organizations, are available for us to serve. A complete list of where you can participate or how you can donate is available below.

Participants are asked to wear our God’s Work. Our Hands t-shirt on Saturday or Sunday. If you are a new volunteer, you can pick up a shirt on Sunday in the Gathering Space.

All are invited to pick up a GWOH or Thrivent Shirt in the Gathering Space the weeks before the event.

God’s Work. Our Hands.

Accepts Donations.

We always include a special food drive for LIFE Food Pantry during this weekend of service. While we regularly support this ministry partner during the year, this weekend event helps fill LIFE’s pantry shelves as we approach the fall and the coming holidays. Below is a link to a list of requested items.

You can pick up grocery bags for the Food Drive and leave your filled bags where we hang coats near the Gathering space, no later than 9 AM on Sunday, September 10. Food items will then be sorted for distribution during the day.

Serve flexibly

Make School Kits or Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief. Through this project, we partner with communities to end poverty, injustice, and human suffering. Kits filled with essentials for personal care or school provide much-needed dignity and hope to people coping with poverty, disaster, conflict, and more

Prepare and complete kits at home and return them to the coat alcove in the Lebanon Road vestibule by the end of September. All kits will be delivered to a southern Ohio collection event before transport to LWR and people in need. Click this link to see a list of items needed.
